Tariffs

Tariffs are the tax burden imposed by the government as a charge for the movement of goods through a border. The purpose of such an action is to support and protect domestic industries. On the other hand, tariffs discourage international trade. A proportion of tariff revenues are commonly hypothecated in order to maintain a navy or border police. But there is still the danger of smuggling or declaring false value of goods to evade customs duty.
Historically a toll taxes was used on roads and bridges to pay for state bridge and road projects.
A use tax is collected for a concrete need. For example, taxes charged on gas-a gas tax, are used to maintain roads.
